Logitech G29 Racing Wheel

Logitech G29 Setup Review

It took some time after we got everything going, but I finally picked up my racing wheel. I decided to go for the Logitech G29 Racing Wheel. I looked at reviews and feedback that others gave on racing wheels. At the end of the day, I have used Logitech controllers before and I decided to go with the G29 for that reason. Time will tell if this was a good decision or not!

Time to Start Driving!

I had to wait a week for delivery after ordering the wheel. Upon watching others set up the wheel and following the guides, it looked fairly easy. I knew I would need to calibrate in iRacing. It ended up not just being as simple as just plug and play. On one hand, it was able to drive. On the other, it was not good on an oval. The wheel also felt a little grindy. The majority of the issues were I was just happy to not have to use a PS4 controller anymore. I got through the first night, but did end a little on the frustrated side. D.J. and I did race at Charlotte where all I did was spin.

I did more research and reading in how to get the wheel set up properly. I made a few more adjustments, which also included downloading the G Hub from Logitech. The adjustments were making sure the calibration was done in Windows and ensure the switch was to PS4 and not PS3. I was routinely adjusting in-game settings to find a good combination. It seemed to help on road courses, but on ovals it still felt like it wanted to drive itself! After another day or so of still fiddling around, I was tempted to throw it out the window! Well, maybe just return it.

Adjustments to the G29 Racing Wheel

The biggest problem I was having with the wheel was just trying to make it turn. Some of the settings made the wheel feel tight and hard to turn. With others it just wasn’t smooth turning. It ended up being great for D.J. to have a second set of eyes and racing on a screen share via Zoom. We went through the whole set in Windows, G Hub and iRacing. After adjustments, I put a car onto the track to see how it went. Other changes went as far as adjusting text document to set different parameters.

At this point in time, the Logitech G29 Racing Wheel is driving fairly smooth! There are still minor tweaks to make, but I am not spinning out or fighting the wheel. Now it is more learning the steering and braking on the different cars and tracks. I would like to reach out to iRacing itself and see if they have any tips for set up. After wanting to throw it out the window at one point, I am happy with the purchase.
