The ABC’s of IndyCar Racing, Andy Amendola – GT Podcast

The ABC's of IndyCar Racing - GT 87

We released two episodes of F-R Racing’s Garage Talk this week! Today we released a special episode with our good friend, Andy Amendola of Red Racer Books. Andy is back for his third visit to the show (two recorded, one live show) to discuss his new book, “The ABC’s of IndyCar Racing” available at RedRacerBooks.com, Amazon, The Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and the Official IndyCar Shop.

In our normal Friday episode, we discuss the week of iRacing including the Season 9 Premiere of Wednesday Night Dash, the Indy Racing World Series heading to the Milwaukee Mile, and even the relocation of The Arizona Coyotes!

Andy Amendola, Red Racer Books – The ABC’s of IndyCar Racing

Our friend Andy Amendola from  @redracerbooks9661  returns to the show to talk about his brand new book, “The ABCs of IndyCar Racing”. Erik and D.J. had a small part of assisting Andy with terminology and some of the context in the book, so we kick off the show talking about that process.

Next we talk about how Andy connected with the  @indycar  to become an officially licensed product. We discuss the process and how that quickly expanded the reach of the book. Finally, we discuss Andy’s upcoming first trip to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and his first Indy 500, the traditions, and everything else IndyCar.

The ABCs of IndyCar Racing and his other books are available at redracerbooks.com, Amazon.com, Shop.IndyCar.com, and the gift shop at your favorite IndyCar race! Follow Andy @redracerbooks on your favorite social media platform.

Wednesday Night Dash Return, NASCAR at Texas, The Relocation of the Arizona Coyotes?

Wednesday Night Dash on  @Stadiumscene  returned this week with the largest field ever in the history of the league! Currently there are 22 drivers registered to compete in the first WND Truck Series since summer of 2022. We discuss the rapid growth of the league and the results of our first week with the much larger field.

Next we go back and recap NASCAR at Texas, the history of Hooters as a NASCAR sponsor, and dive briefly into IndyCar at Long Beach, and the upcoming Formula 1 going back to China for the first time since 2019.

Earlier in the episode D.J. goes off topic about the now official (wasn’t at the time of the recording) relocation of the Arizona Coyotes and how stadium location and ownership over the years really ruined that franchise.

Building a Sim Racing Team With John Miles of JM Motorsports, NASCAR Clash Recap F-R Racing's Garage Talk

On this week's Garage Talk, we hang out with John Miles. John owns JM Motorsports, races with us on Wednesday Night Dash and other events. We talk to him about the process of building a sim racing team.First up, John is a college student at the University of Missouri so we discuss how does he balance iRacing with college and other activities. Side note: if Erik and D.J. had iRacing back in college, things probably would have not gone well. John goes into his process of how he built his team originally with his childhood best friend Jax Malan and the interesting place where they met Lane Snow.Next, we talk about the challenges of finding sponsors for an esports/sim racing team. John has managed to secure some sponsorships of large companies through meeting with local locations. Finally, we close out the show talking about the NASCAR Clash at Bowman Gray Stadium. How was the clash? Was it better than LA? Should they go back there next year?Follow John and JM Motorsports onInstagram.Key Episode Highlights:00:00:00 – Introducing John Miles of JM Motorsports00:07:39 – Balancing iRacing and College Life00:15:25 – The Rise of Esports and iRacing00:23:07 – Pro Sports Nepotism and Young Drivers00:30:52 – Challenges in Indie Car Racing00:38:46 – Comparing NASCAR and IndyCar Events00:46:37 – Technical Aspects of Sim Racing00:54:47 – Upcoming Races and League Plans———Wednesday Night Dash airs most Wednesdays at 10 pm ET.
