In this week’s Insider, we have a wild edition of Wednesday Night Dash at Rockingham, and a recap of the Sonsio Grand Prix, and Carson Hocevar middle finger heard around the world on Garage Talk.

2025 Sonsio Grand Prix at IMS, Carson Hocevar Middle Finger, iRacing Oval Cautions
On this week’s episode of Garage Talk, we recap the Sonsio Grand Prix at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, recap the Kansas NASCAR weekend including Carson Hocevar’s “gesture” to Layne Riggs, ideas for iRacing to improve the restart procedure, and more!
D.J.’s kids got him sick yet again, but the show must go on! For the first half of the show we largely stick to on topic motorsports including a recap of the Sonsio Grand Prix, a breakdown of what little Indy 500 practice we’ve seen so far, and which driver will ultimately miss out on qualifying for the race? We both agree there is a clear favorite to miss.
Next, we welcome Horizon Hobby to the F-R Racing family! Horizon Hobby has been a great friend to NASCAR and D.J. loves his 1:12 scale hobby grade RC car and now Horizon Hobby is rolling out the 2025 editions! Check them out at Horizon Hobby.
Next we move on and discuss the NASCAR weekend at Kansas including a dominant performance from Kyle Larson and Carson Hocevar winning the truck race with the bird heard round the world. His gesture to Layne Riggs while taking the checkered flag got a variety of responses including a surprising one from Kyle Busch of all people.
Finally, we get off topic a little bit towards the end of the show, but we do follow up on our discussion of iRacing’s re-ordering procedure for oval racing during cautions, especially during finishes under caution. We have not seen a response from iRacing support over our ticket from our Talladega debacle, but we provide some suggestions on how iRacing can fix the driver notification system.

Recent Race Results
Race: iRacing Daytona 24
Results: Erik Richardson, Hunter Hughes, Ian Miller, and Tyler Vickery ran in the GTP/Hypercar class for the first time in the Ferrari 499P. The real stars of the show was the rain and the new dynamic track debris system that created chaos all over the track. Numerous accidents led to a P9 in class (of 21) and P33 overall (of 58). We look to bounce back stronger at Sebring in March.
